Senior Payroll Specialist with Finnish

Main responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of the monthly payroll input by either instructing external payroll partners or undertaking direct input in external payroll tools (Mepco)

  • Review system generated test reports, determine if accurate process are accomplished and correct any errors

  • Remit payments to tax and social insurance authorities and benefit providers, complete and submit any required regulatory forms

  • Be a central point of contact for payroll inquiries for the assigned entities, delivering an effective service to our internal customers

  • Ensure data integrity between Workday and the payroll platform

  • Perform tasks to establish and maintain employee payroll and benefits records (salaries, variable schemes, employee shares, health and other insurance policies, pensions schemes etc.) in accordance with the legal regulations and company procedures

Other responsibilites:

  • Participate in internal controls design and testing (SOX)

  • Perform ad-hoc and recurring reporting of payroll data 

  • Own the set-up and continuous adjustment of the Finnish Payroll Playbook as central process repository

  • Actively participate in payroll related process improvement initiatives & the development of payroll best-practice approaches

  • Document and review all outside the system work practices and operating guidelines for assigned payrolls

  • Support in the creation of a solid backup structure within the European payroll function, provide backup for other payroll team members during their absences

  • Provide training, onboarding and mentoring support for other Payroll Specialists

  • Develop close relationships with our Country HR teams to ensure the smooth flow of payroll related information

  • Close collaboration with our Finance teams on payroll account reconciliations

  • Close collaboration with our external providers

  • Stay current on payroll practices and regulations for the assigned entities

  • Representing the function in internal/external audits

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-3 years relevant payroll experience covering Finnish entities across various sectors  incl. CBA-driven payroll 

  • Strong servicing mindset, feeling at ease when answering payroll inquiries from employees, managers, business unit controllers, vendors and governmental agencies, both in writing and over the phone 

  • Solid understanding of payroll calculations, accounting, taxation, and finance concepts as it relates to payroll in Finland 

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective ongoing relationships through all levels of the organization, including executives, line operations and peers, as well as experience operating in a global matrix environment 

  • Experience in external payroll platforms and vendor management  

  • Good knowledge and practice in using Workday as a central HRIS platform

  • Passionate about Payroll and data accuracy 

  • Ability to identify and solve complex issues using existing policies and procedures 

  • Advanced English communication skills (written, verbal) and interpersonal skills 

  • Proficiency in Excel 

  • Resistant to stress and strive to meet deadlines in time, ability to manage the payroll 

  • Workload effectively with minimal instruction 

  • Ability to mentor and support junior colleagues
