Job Summary

Due to growth of our state-of-the-art Cell-Based Screening and Functional Genomic Screening Platforms, we have an exciting opportunity for a Scientist 1 to join our Core Screening Department to join us for a fixed term contract of 12 months. As a Scientist 1 in the Preclinical department, you will be responsible for executing cell and molecular biology, and automation workflows generate data for high-throughput compound screens and CRISPR-Cas9 functional genomic screens for fee-paying commercial clients. Your daily activities will directly align to and benefit Revvity’s goals and values.

This is a lab-based role and involves some repetitive tasks. Candidates should be organised, self-motivated, able to work to tight timelines and be comfortable working under pressure in an environment with shifting priorities.

Note that this position requires flexible working to cover 7-day operations (rota based).

In this role you will:

  • Use various cell and molecular biology techniques, laboratory automation and lab information management systems (LIMS) to contribute to the delivery of arrayed compound screening projects, and pooled functional genomics screening projects, with appropriate supervision.

  • Following training, independently undertake detailed tasks according to SOPs, recording any deviations as necessary

  • Process, record, and report all data generated in a precise and organized manner

  • Contributing to continuous improvement of screening processes and workflows to maximise effectiveness and reduce costs.

  • Communicate data and information clearly to your colleagues

  • Use resources effectively, holding yourself and others accountable for high standards

About You

To succeed int this role, you will need:

  • Degree in a Biological Discipline covering mammalian cell biology

  • At least one year’s full time lab experience (industry preferred)

  • Good organisational skills and communication skills with a proven ability to plan and prioritise work to ensure project or task timelines are met and communicate deviations, as appropriate

  • Excellent aseptic technique and hands-on experience of mammalian cell culture techniques, for example cell line passaging, cell revivals and banking etc.

  • A strong interest in using laboratory automation and LIMs to produce high quality products

  • Self-aware with a diligent nature, good attention to detail and good record keeping skills

You may also have:

  • Practical experience with liquid handling robotic equipment and LIMS (although full training will be provided)

  • Technical knowledge of gene editing and gene modulation technologies

  • Knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction and PCR.

  • Experience of high throughput screening and knowledge of combination screening, including analysing and interpreting compound dose response experiments.

  • Knowledge of lab information management systems (LIMS) and liquid handling robotic equipment (although full training will be provided).

  • An understanding of Quality Management Systems

  • An interest in Lean methodologies (e.g. 5S, 8-wastes, Kaizen etc)

  • Experience working in an Industrial / CRO setting.
