Duties:

  • Manufacture oligonucleotides using established protocols. Process and purify samples using Anion Exchange and Reverse Phase HPLC purification methods as well as Gel Electrophoresis.

  • Conduct quality control testing using HPLC, LCMS, UV-VIS spectroscopy, and endotoxin testing as needed.

  • Accurately and efficiently complete final packaging of customer samples.

  • Cross-train to ensure the capability to complete the primary tasks in each of the Custom Manufacturing laboratories, including, but not limited to, Custom Oligonucleotide Synthesis and Post Synthetic Processing.

  • Accurately and effectively complete basic equipment tasks including, but not limited to, reagent filling; synthesizer set-up, operation, and maintenance on several different synthesis platforms; AX and Reverse Phase purification system set-up and operation, endotoxin testing, laboratory clean-up, planning day based on priorities, and final packaging.

  • Maintain proper lab maintenance and upkeep per Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and 5S standards.

  • Act as day-to-day point of contact for prioritizing the work across the custom synthesis team and decision point person when manager not available.

  • Help Custom Manager to ensure SOP’s are adhered to and priorities are communicated.

  • Assists manager with prioritization and workload in lab to meet customer needs and new product launches, while ensuring on-time ship rate. Generate, collaborate, analyze, and present metrics for Custom Team and manager to track failure rate of synthesizers and defect rate as part of Production KPIs.

  • Create, collaborate, and help review department SOP’s.

  • Help lead daily Stand-up discussion and take notes as needed to update manager when manager not available. 

  • Participate in meetings with Manager and Director as assigned or needed. 

  • Work with manager on final data analysis, review, and decisions making for customer oligos. 

  • Assist manager in identification, testing, and implementation of new processes and procedures. 

  • Point person when manager is out-of-office and is also a resource for other night shift employees for decision making for process problems and data analysis.

  • Responsible for helping to maintain and ensure supply of Production materials, work closely with Chemistry team to determine needs and usage of in-house amidites and support.

  • Train and assist manager in overseeing training of new Custom Manufacturing employees in Custom synthesis utilizing document control system.

  • Comply with all EH&S regulations and policies. Fulfill other trainings, tasks and responsibilities as assigned and/or required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Basic Sciences, or related field of study, and 6 years of experience in any job title/occupation/position involving oligonucleotide synthesis, analysis, and post processing.

  • Experience specified must include 5 years of experience with each of the following: oligonucleotide chemistries, modifications, and methodologies; and manufacturing, processing, and packaging of RNA and DNA oligonucleotides. The experience specified must include 5 years of experience operating, running, and troubleshooting at least two of the following synthesizer platforms – ABI 3900, Bio Automation Mermade 12, Mermade48, and AKTA OligoPilot.

  • The experience specified must also include 4 years of experience with each of the following: a Quality Management System in an ISO 9001:2015 environment; Microsoft Excel using pivot tables, creating macros, building charts and graphs to create metrics for key manufacturing processes and metrics for report out; writing and editing Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions for laboratory processes; and continuous improvement, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing tools – fishbone diagrams, 5S, Values stream mapping, pareto analysis.

Compensation Range:               

The base salary range for this full-time position is $102,773 - $105,000 / year. The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. 

Please note that base pay is only one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This range allows for the successful candidate to have an opportunity to progress within the position and develop at our company. This base pay range does not take into account bonuses, equity, or other benefits which may be applicable and are dependent on the level and position offered.
