Job Summary
The Biochemist II, MOJO at BioLegend will be an integral member of the MojoSort manufacturing team, which manufactures and provides antibodies and reagents to a diverse set of research areas. This position will report to the team lead and will ensure the highest quality of our finalized products. In this position you will perform troubleshooting of problematic errors, continue to improve methodologies for efficiency, follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)s, and cross train on a variety of other supporting tasks.
The main responsibility for this position will be to perform manufacturing magnetic nanoparticles conjugated with proteins such as streptavidin and antibodies, prepare and formulate related reagents according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for cell separation applications. Other duties will include completion of appropriate batch record forms, updating relevant databases and other lab duties.
Essential Functions

- Complete production orders following SOPs and batch records.
- Perform synthesis and protein coating of magnetic nanoparticles.
- Execute conjugation of streptavidin magnetic nanoparticles and antibody magnetic nanoparticles.
- Perform synthesis of affinity resin and NHS-activated resin.
- Perform centrifugation, protein chromatography, protein/iron quantification assays, spectroscopy and DLS.
- Prepare buffers, dilutions and formulate magnetic particles. Perform basic math calculations to calculate the number of antibodies and concentrations.
- Conduct experiments for process improvement and optimization under supervision.
- Troubleshoot problematic reaction under supervision.
- Track production runs downstream.
- Train level I associates.
- Conduct maintenance of laboratory instruments, lab supplies, and cleaning glassware
- Other projects or responsibilities as required.
Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline
- 1+ year lab experience in a manufacturing or research setting
Preferred Qualifications – Education and Experience
- Direct work experience in beads preparation and/or bioconjugation
- 2 years lab experience in field of chemistry, biochemistry and lab instruments performing like UV Vis, dynamic light
scattering (DLS), and chromatography - Familiarity with basic lab equipment and knowledge of lab safety protocols
- Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, organized, and work well in groups setting
- Excellent communication skills to carry out interdepartmental communication.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $23.00 - $29.00/hr. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for a new hire in this position. The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
Please note that base pay is only one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This range allows for the successful candidate to have an opportunity to progress within the position and develop at our company. This base pay range does not take into account bonuses, equity, or other benefits which may be applicable and are dependent on the level and position offered.
