Scientist I - Exploratory R&D

Job Summary

The Scientist in Exploratory R&D at BioLegend will be responsible for process development and improvement. In particular, he/she will be involved in the optimization and troubling of cell culture processes, in order to establish a consistent and improved cell culture method for primary cells, hybridoma cell lines, and other relevant cell types. This role will also support new product development for cell culture applications, such as media and supplements. Knowledge of process development on small and large scale is a plus.

He/she must have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy. Be able to maintain good documentation practices of experiments and generate reports. Must be proficient in computer software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). Must be self-motivated and able to multitask. Must be collaborative and have good communication skills.

• Design and conduct experiments.
• Troubleshooting and conducting process improvements of hybridoma, in collaboration with R&D, Product Development and Manufacturing cell culture teams.
• Develop optimized scaling procedures that address cost, time, and quality for bioreactors.
• Create ISO-compliant documentation and train the affected team on new processes
• Capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced goal-driven environment
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with teams including R&D, Product Development, Manufacturing, and Quality Control.
• Other projects or responsibilities as may be required.

Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience

• B.S. with generally more than 12 yrs of relevant experience OR
• M.S. with generally more than 6 yrs of relevant working experience OR
• Ph.D. with generally 0-2 years of post-doctoral training or relevant working experiences

Preferred Qualifications – Education and Experience

• Master’s Degree and 6 years of relevant experience OR
• PhD in the sciences with 2 year’s relevant experience, preferentially in immunology, biotechnology or pharmaceutical field
• Experience in process development and optimization for primary cell culture
• Media development experience for bioprocessing applications

The base salary range for this full-time position is $80,000 -$90,000. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for a new hire in this position. The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that base pay is only one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This range allows for the successful candidate to have an opportunity to progress within the position and develop at our company. This base pay range does not take into account bonuses, equity, or other benefits which may be applicable and are dependent on the level and position offered.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a laboratory environment with occasional data entry on a computer. Occasional exposure to a warehouse environment.
