Job Summary

Revvity (formerly Horizon Discovery), is a leading life science company that delivers science-driven research solutions advancing the understanding of the genetic basis of disease and the delivery of better healthcare outcomes for patients. We act as a discovery partner for leading pharma and biotech companies worldwide, providing research services and tools to support the development of personalized medicines.

Due to growth of our state-of-the-art Cell-Based Screening and Functional Genomic Screening Platforms, we have an exciting opportunity for a Scientist 2 to join our Core Screening Department. As a Scientist 2 in the Preclinical department, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and analysing data generated from high-throughput compound screens and CRISPR-Cas9 functional genomic screens for fee-paying commercial clients. Your daily activities will directly align to and benefit Revvity’s goals and values.

This role will be primarily lab based, with some office work required. Candidates will be expected to work on multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and should be highly self-motivated, able to work to tight timelines and be comfortable working under pressure in an environment with shifting priorities.

Note that this position requires flexible working to cover 7-day operations (rota based). The possibility of weekend work is approximately once a quarter.

In this role you will:

  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of arrayed compound screening projects, and pooled functional genomics screening projects, with appropriate supervision, where required.

  • Design, QC and analyse high throughput arrayed compound screening projects.

  • Manage compound arrayed screening activities in coordination with cell culture, compound management and automation scientists to ensure timely delivery of projects.

  • Prepare client reports and support client project tracking and communication in collaboration with the project management office.

  • Supervise more junior team members, mentoring them in techniques and troubleshooting problems.

  • Contributing to continuous improvement of screening processes and workflows to maximise effectiveness and reduce costs.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Higher level degree (e.g. MSc, MRes or PhD) in Biotechnology or Biological discipline (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience of mammalian cell culture, excellent aseptic technique and performing various cell-based assays, such as those commonly employed at Horizon (https://horizondiscovery.com/navigation/screening).

  • Experience of handling large datasets and the interpretation and communication of these data to key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to work in a dynamic matrix-managed team environment and on multiple projects with constantly changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Excellent planning/organizational skills with a careful and meticulous nature.

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow and give instructions, and comply with company policies.

You may also have:

  • Experience with transfection, transduction and techniques to modulate gene expression in mammalian cell models e.g. CRISPR-Cas9, siRNA, shRNA etc.

  • Safe handling and production of lentiviral reagents.

  • Familiarity with data visualisation software such as Prism and Tibco® Spotfire®.

  • Knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction and PCR.

  • Experience of high throughput screening and knowledge of combination screening, including analysing and interpreting compound dose response experiments.

  • Knowledge of lab information management systems (LIMS) and liquid handling robotic equipment (although full training will be provided).

  • Experience working in an Industrial / CRO setting.

If you have experience with CRISPR-Cas9 or compound screening and a keen interest in developing these skills further and applying these technologies to clinically relevant applications in a collaborative, team environment, to help our customers and aid drug-discovery then click on the link and apply below to start your screening journey with Revvity!
