Role Overview
Revvity is seeking an experienced Principal Sustaining Engineer to join the Llantrisant site and provide technical leadership for sustaining, improving, and ensuring the long‑term reliability and compliance of complex, high‑reliability instrumentation.
This role will act as a senior technical authority within sustaining engineering, working cross‑functionally with R&D, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, and global engineering teams. The Principal Sustaining Engineer will lead complex investigations, drive design improvements, support regulatory compliance, and mentor technical staff, while reporting directly to the Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the technical lead for sustaining activities across complex, safety‑critical and regulated products
Lead and support system‑level investigations spanning hardware, firmware, and software.
Provide technical decision‑making and oversight aligned with system engineering principles.
Plan and execute verification and validation activities, including risk‑based and compliance‑driven testing.
Support and influence design changes, configuration management, and release activities for sustaining updates.
Ensure continued compliance with IVDR / ISO 13485 regulatory and audit requirements.
Collaborate effectively across global, multi‑disciplinary teams with shared resources.
Serve as a subject matter expert for system behaviour, reliability, and instrument safety.
Guide and mentor engineers within sustaining and adjacent engineering teams.
Contribute to continuous improvement of sustaining processes, test strategies, and engineering best practices.
Communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders, including quality, regulatory, and operations teams.
Required Qualifications & Experience
10+ years of experience managing projects and delivering complex technology developments
Degree in Physics, Engineering, or a comparable scientific or technical discipline
Proven experience leading and managing technical teams
Strong background in radiometric technologies and applications or related detection technologies
Demonstrated experience working in matrixed, global organisations with shared engineering resources
Broad, hands‑on technical expertise enabling effective communication at developer level across disciplines
Strong understanding of:
System engineering principles.
Verification & validation methodologies.
Risk‑based and compliance‑driven testing.
Experience with:
Radiation detection or other high‑reliability, complex systems.
Hardware–software–electronics–firmware integration testing.
Test management and defect tracking tools.
Additional Skills & Knowledge
Instrument safety, fault handling, and failure mitigation.
Configuration, change, and release management.
Regulatory and audit environments, particularly IVDR / ISO 13485.
Fundamental knowledge of:
Electronics
Firmware (FW)
FPGA (advantageous)
