Vivarium Technician

Job Summary

The Vivarium Technician at BioLegend is responsible for the daily care of research animals including feeding, cage washing, maintaining a clean environment and monitoring the overall health of the animals. The Vivarium Technician in addition handles animal requests and maintain breeding colonies. This position is expected to work independently and in a team environment under established safety guidelines and protocols

Essential Functions

• Daily monitoring of animal health and vivarium environmental conditions
• Supply appropriate food and water for animals housed in the vivarium
• Clean and provide animal housing and associated materials/equipment within assigned animal rooms
• Transfers animals from dirty to clean caging providing appropriate feed, water and bedding
• Clean cages, accessories, and water bottles via cage washer or by hand
• ATP test cages, accessories and other items quantitatively evaluating vivarium cleanliness
• Assists with the receipt, stocking of ordered items.
• Wean Mice
• Properly disposes of waste
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of animal cages, and support spaces of the vivarium, providing a clean odor free and low stress environment for the animals to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare.
• Establish and maintain appropriate and quality communication, teamwork, collaboration, and cooperation.
  

Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
  

Preferred Qualifications – Education and Experience

• Animal husbandry experience
• Some college coursework or associate's degree
• Requires good verbal and written communication skills.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Lab

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a laboratory environment with occasional data entry on a computer. Occasional exposure to a warehouse environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear.

The base salary range for this full-time position is$18.75 - $24.00/hour. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for a new hire in this position. The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. 

Please note that base pay is only one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This range allows for the successful candidate to have an opportunity to progress within the position and develop at our company. This base pay range does not take into account bonuses, equity, or other benefits which may be applicable and are dependent on the level and position offered.
